Main Display Screen Area
Overview
The Main Display Area of the
Show Images Screen displays images pertinent to the active taxon and associated header and
footer information. In addition to several user-selectable
controls, this screen
area displays
up to six lines of
header information above the displayed image, and one line of footer information below
the image. Where appropriate data are lacking, some header and/or footer lines
may not be displayed. The header lines that may be shown (in
order from top to bottom) are as follows: (1) taxon identification and associated
higher taxa [with links], (2) image keywords, (3) geographic origin of specimen(s) shown in imag, (4) image credit [photographer, artist, scanner, etc.], (5) identifier of taxon in image, (6) comments about image. The footer line below the image provides a direct path to the displayed image.
User-selectable Controls
- "Image keyword:" combo
box - Make a selection from the "Image keyword:" combo box
to change the scope of the image list displayed in
the "Image:" combo box. Choosing a keyword from the
"Image keyword:" combo box immediately changes the image list displayed in the "Image:"
combo box to contain only images coded with the chosen keyword. The
default option for the "Image keyword" combo box is "All",
which places all images pertinent to the active taxon into the image
list of the "Image:" combo box. Other "Image keyword:" options permit
the image list of the "Image:" combo box
to be restricted by criteria such as life stage, sex or direction of
view.

Tips and Functionality
- To view new images from the active image list you
can either make selections directly from the "Image:" combo box or
use the "Previous" or "Next" buttons. If the right side
of the "Image:" combo box extends off the right side of your
monitor screen or browser window, you can still click in the combo box area
and drag down to operate the combo box.
- Use the "Image keyword:" combo box to
change the scope of the image list displayed in the "Image:" combo
box.
- Use the "Lift image" button (or simply click
on the active image) to open the active image in a new, separate, copy of
your browser. Because "lifted" images occupy separate copies of your
browser, you can size and position them on your computer screen for concurrent
viewing. The multiple "lifted" images can be from the same
or different Taxon Pages, allowing considerable flexability in comparing
images of the same or different taxa. If you have a small monitor screen,
you can also use this feature to maximize the viewable size of a large
image on your screen -- after "lifting" the image, simply maximize
the size of the new image window by using your browsers
controls.
