Scientific Name Finder Screen (Browse Option)
CONTENTS
Main Display Screen Area
Overview
The Main Display Area of
the Scientific Name Finder Screen (Browse Option) displays an indented
classification of the higher taxa included in the TIARA system, together with associated user-selectable controls and header and footer
information. The classification, a standardized indented list in which each line
corresponds to a single taxon, provides a flexible and comprehensive means of
linking to all TIARA system Taxon Home Pages using appropriate scientific names.
Major features of the classification list display include: (1) information on
the diversity of subtaxa included in the TIARA system for each higher taxon, (2)
an indentation scheme that vertically aligns taxa of identical rank, (3) the
ability to independently expand and collapse parts of the list to emphasize or
de-emphasize taxa of interest, and (4) access to all TIARA Taxon Pages through "clickable" icons.

Tips and Functionality
- Multiple sections of the taxon list can be expanded
and displayed concurrently using the Expand List icons. This functionality
can be used to compare subtaxon lists by scrolling on the same screen, or to
copy and paste custom taxon lists to another program (e.g., a word processor).
- Long expanded lists may be slow to reload, so it is
advisable not to expand too many list sections at the same time and to collapse unneeded expanded list sections.
- To view long subtaxon lists it may be more efficient
to use the Taxon List icons to jump to and view such lists using the Taxon
List functionality build into individual Taxon Home Pages. A benefit of this
strategy is that it provides access additional options for viewing different styles of lists.
