Biography: I am an entomologist working for the French research
institute for tropical agriculture CIRAD (Centre de Coopération Internationale
en Recherche Agronomique pour le Développement). Following my graduation with a
Ph.D. in Parasitology-Pathology from The University of Montpellier in 1981, my
work with CIRAD has led to postings throughout the world: Ivory Coast
(1981-1983), Paraguay (1984-1992), Brazil (1992), Mali (1993-2000), and
Thailand (2000- ). My main areas of expertise are in cotton entomology,
integrated pest management, faunistic studies, taxonomy (particularly of
Neotropical Coccinellidae and Neotropical and Afrotropical Heteroptera
important to agriculture) and entomological training. I started collecting
insects in 1966 when I was 10 years old, and I maintain a large collection of
insects of all orders. I have collected Neuroptera, especially Myrmeleontidae
and Ascalaphidae, while in France, Paraguay, French Guyana, Ivory Coast, and
Mali. My published work to date on the Neuroptera has focused on material
collected in Mali (almost 2000 specimens). From the Sikasso region of south
Mali, I recorded 12 species of Ascalaphidae and ca. 100 species of
Myrmeleontidae. During my seven years in Mali I was able to determine the
flight periods of most of these species, and to compile additional data on the
eggs, larvae and ecology of many. Based on this work, begun in 1993, I plan to
describe the ascalaphid and myrmeleontid communities of southern Mali. I also
plan to continue my neuropterological studies at my new posting in Thailand. I
am a French national, married with two children. My hobbies include travel (ca.
30 countries visited), playing alto saxophone and….entomology! (31.iii.2000)
