  The first character has the following meaning:
  
  N Recent, valid name.
  * Synonym [of some kind: misspellings, homonyms, etc....associated comments
    usually indicate which kind]
  F Fossil name.
  B Invalid name [associated comments usually indicate which kind]
  
  The 2nd and 3rd characters are the numbers 01 throught 39 representing the
