Department of Entomology’s Reinvestment
Program for Research Infrastructure

Distribution of Funds for Reinvestment in Entomology Research Infrastructure

For On-Campus Entomology Faculty with COALS and TAES Appointments:

As instructed by the Entomology COALS/TAES faculty in the Research Retreat, the Department of Entomology shall redistribute research funds through an internal grants program.  Appropriate use of these funds is for on-campus COALS/TAES faculty research purposes only and shall include, but not be restricted to, the purchase, upgrade, or maintenance of essential research equipment; remodeling of physical space for maintaining facilities supportive of scientific creativity and productivity; and bridging between grants to maintain essential personnel that will clearly contribute to the building of quality research programs.  Because grant and contract growth is critically important to the future of the Department, the expenditure of these funds is to be leveraged to the maximum extent with faculty funds available for research infrastructure.  Proposals from faculty are requested for efficient allocation of these Department dollars.  Two page (maximum) proposals should be submitted.  Each proposal should include:

  • A detailed description and confirmed cost estimate associated with the request
  • Justification of the purchase in terms of programmatic impact to Departmental research programs (explanation of how funding will enhance or elevate research programs, grants in progress or to be submitted, or faculty linkages within the department)
  • Proposed location for housing of the equipment, remodeling, or personnel
  • Amount and source of financial leverage associated with the request
  • Signatures for all participates

Each on-campus faculty member may submit one proposal either individually or within a team for both spring and fall semesters.
