Oak Leafroller and Other Springtime Caterpillars
Now Active

Contributor:  Bastiaan "Bart" M. Drees

Reports of heavy infestations of oak leafrollers are being reported from the San Antonio area , where they are experiencing outbreaks similar to those reported in the College Station area in 2004. In this wet spring, stress to oak trees from defoliation is likely to be minimal. Caterpillars are now completing development and should be pupating soon. However, heavy silk production is causing an annoyance to residents.

Other spring leaf-feeding caterpillars now noticeable include the Eastern tent caterpillar on peaches and plums (Prunus species), the forest tent caterpillar on oaks, cankerworms or inchworms on oaks and elms.
