Gray Hairstreak (Cotton Square Borer)
Scientific name: Strymon melinus (Hubner)
(Lepidoptera: Lycaenidae)
Facts: The gray hair streak is an attractive little butterfly with
minute tails on its hind wing although these tails are often broken off.
Larvae of the gray hair streak are known as cotton square borers and
attack cotton squares and hibiscus buds.
