Scientific name: Bothynus gibbosus
(Coleoptera: Scarabeidae)

Facts: In spite of the name carrot beetle is a more serious pest on sunflowers where they are ground commercially. They also are know to chew on tar in shingles and between the seams of cement. Apparently they are attracted to some of the chemicals that are give off by the tar.
