Scientific name: Tibicen sp.
(Homoptera: Cicadidae)

Facts: Cicada make the loud buzzing noise in the trees in the hot part of the summer. They sometimes are called locusts but the name locusts should only be used for certain migratory grasshoppers. Immature cicadas live in the soil where they suck sap from tree roots. There are several species and some live 17 years in the soil before they emerge as adult cicadas.
