A Word From Our Department Head...

Dr. Kevin Heinz
The John Lennon Christmas carole, Happy Christmas (War is Over), begins with the line, “And So This Is Christmas; And What Have We Done? Whether you celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, or simply the Winter Solstice, this is a time of year where we reflect on the many gifts received throughout the year and show our appreciations by making very special seasonal gifts to those around us. As a Department of Entomology Family, let us rejoice in:
- The health and well-being of our families, friends, and colleagues;
- Our discoveries and teachings that have improved the lives of others;
- The gifts bestowed upon us from those who so firmly believe in what we do;
- Our service to one another; and
- The many acts of charity made by faculty, staff, and students to benefit those less fortunate than ourselves.
When considering that special gift to give someone else, may some of the following suggestions best express some of the best of our Entomological family:
- To all who have offended you, forgiveness and tolerance;
- To all seeking assistance, service;
- To all, charity;
- To every co-worker or student, a good example; and
- To yourself, respect.
Best wishes for a safe and joyous holiday season, and for a healthy and prosperous 2008.

Entomology research was the "buzz word" during the week of November 7-9 as TCE, COALS and TAES entomologists from across the state convened for the Entomology Science Conference.
The event allows entomologists to share research projects and keep up to date with the latest trends in pest management and agricultural entomology.
Activities kicked off with opening words from Associate Department Head and Extension Program Leader Chris Sansone, Extension IPM
Coordinator
